Overview
Tambopata National Reserve offer visitors a world’s largest clay lick and an ideal sight for bird lovers. We have designed this programme to offer you the most and the best of the Tambopata National Reserve.
Chuncho Clay Lick in Tambopata National Park is a unique experience. Hundreds of brightly coloured macaws, parrots and parakeets fly to the cliffs to eat clay. The clay in Chuncho is rich with a distinct salt that helps these birds to flush out toxins from their body.
Day 1
Day 01: Puerto Maldonado Town – Canopy – Night Walk
The tour in the Tambopata National Reserve Peru begins with the reception at the airport and transportation to our office for a tour briefing on what to expect on your three days tour. Please we highly recommend to have a pack with the necessary for the jungle, but, in case a big suitcase you can have it stored at our office.
Then you will be transferred by land by (4X4) wheeled truck trip to the Tambopata river (48 km. pave road and 18 km. dirt road) then 10 minutes boat ride up river to arrive our AMAZON LODGE (lunch on the way or at lodge)
During the trip on dirt road into the heart of the rain forest we will be able to observe clouds of butterflies, typical Amazon communities, while groups of birds pass over the car and animals such as agoutis, and monkeys.
Reception and accommodation at AMAZON LODGE. After accommodation you will have the opportunity to visit the 40 meter canopy tower, from there it offers unrivalled views of the Rainforest.
Our guides will lead you on a trail to get the tower and climb its steps. Finally, you reach the top where you’ll be able to see miles of pristine forest stretching in every direction.
Since animals are most active in the canopy, you’ll have incredible chances to see wildlife macaws flying at this level as well as toucans and many colorful birds.
This is unforgettable experience, you’ll be awed by the intimate views of treetop animals, paired with the sweeping panorama of the jungle. Magical sunset at the tower.
In the night we will go on night walk to understand rainforest ecosystems and see some of the amazing tree frogs, maybe snakes, spiders like tarantulas, stick insects and many other animals active in the night.
This activity is very safe and great opportunity for macro photos.
Return to the lodge for dinner. Sleep at OUR LODGE.
Day 2
Day 02: Macaws Clay Lick “El Chuncho” – Jungle Exploring
Early wake up at 4:30 a.m. to take a light breakfast (coffee or té), to begin with our 1:30 to 2 hours journey upstream in Tambopata river to the Macaw Clay Lick “El Chuncho” in Tambopata National Reserve.
On the way we will have the opportunity to see some species such as capybaras, which is the world’s largest rodents, tapirs, and you can even see the most beautiful South American feline, The Jaguar!,
Many of our clients witness having seen them crossing the river or simply drinking water on the shore into the Tambopata National Reserve Peru.
After our arrival to the clay licks you will see hundreds of parrots of different species that come to eat clay adjacent to the river on the wall, red and green macaw (Ara chlotopterus), scarlet macaw (Ara Macao), blue-yellow macaw (Ara ararauna), among others-
Come to gather to eat clay needed in their daily diet and eliminate toxins.
On a good day of activity you will see hundreds of these wonderful animals flying over you. An experience for life!
In the middle morning we return to the lodge to take a rest or enjoy the facilities and the surroundings of the lodge, we have a hammock house near the river, it is great to rest.
At middle day you will have the opportunity to go to swim at the Tambopata river.
In the afternoon you are going to go in a etnobotanical long jungle walk to learn about medicinal plants, amazon types of wood and a great opportunity to see more mammals and big trees.
By night free to rest, enjoy the drinks of our bar or possibility of another night hike (highly recommended), this activity will be possible according the weather conditions.

Day 3
Day 03: Back to Puerto Maldonado
Before breakfast we will go on another jungle walk is optional the visit to the canopy tower to see colorful birds such as toucans, oropendolas, hummingbirds, trogons, woodpeckers, nunbirds, tanagers, jacamars, etc.
Sunrise according weather conditions is amazing from the canopy of the trees. Return to the lodge for breakfast and boat to the port where the car is waiting for us to take us back to Puerto Maldonado.
At the city we will be sure you are in time to take your flight to Lima or Cuzco.
